“Portals” was the second work I made after I’d returned to Italy.

“Portals”
60 x 80cm
Acrylic & Collage

I’d finished it on the anniversary of my grandmother’s death in June, and that evening a moth flew in through the window and landed on the portal in the painting, where it stayed all evening. So it just begged for that addition as an ink on paper collaged moth, in honour of Hetti.

The “real” moth and the ink imposter.

The abstract idea came about from seeing the back of an old aluminium etching plate I’d kept, and I loved the way the old ink lines had arranged themselves there over the recycled printers’ lithograph. I’d never noticed before I knocked it off the wall.

Back of “Anne Maree’s Owl” plate.

  1. Beautiful, etherial painting. If you have the time look up moth’s symbolisms/connection to spirituality. Quite fascinating considering the place in life you have currently arrived at. One post spoke of transformation! Love and a hug. Angela xx

    1. Thanks Angela ❤️ Each year on both grandmothers’ anniversaries, I have some sort of winged creature visit my house or work and make themselves very much known – bats, swallows, dragonflies, and moths 🦋
