London suite I: Wednesday Evening – Victoria

a sensory list of memory
in whitewashed angles where May’s
caught itself a scribbled
song stuck honey-tight
dissonant touch of chilli
to the eyeball
cardamom cumin curlicues
hung jasmine sun warm
cupped a hand over my nose
led me through
an inventory of childhood
summers-to-come
fever, before it was
and all things remembered
at just the right moment
to be forgotten
