today i opened the sluice gates
dampened down to catch up, chin-deep
ate on the banks of the computer
rowed my coffee cups through synonyms
and around lesson plan islands navigated
the Hong Kong-bright
archipelago of Deadline

Now I stop to take breath
between strokes
and strophes, drift, snatch rest
catch up on the islets of others’ poetry
as I make my way
already sleep-eyed
to the shoreline of Work Tonight

oggi ho aperto le paratoie
irrorata fino a raggiungere, profonda al mento
ho mangiato sulle rive del computer
remato miei tazze di caffè attraverso sinonimi
e intorno alle isole delle piani di lezione ho navigato
l’arcipelago di Termine
brillante come Hong Kong

Ora mi fermo per riprendere fiato
tra colpi
e strofa, vado alla deriva, rubo riposo
recupero sulle isole di poesia degli altri
e faccio la mia strada bagnata
già con gli occhi assonnati
al litorale del Lavoro Stasera
