By 2015, 2 years after moving to Santa Fiora in southern Tuscany, I could finally say I was making jewellery in earnest again, tucked into the tiny garret-like spare room in my house that had once been a butter factory. I soon changed my business name from Kittykatmandoo (too hard for the local clientele to pronounce, let alone spell!) to Ali Matteini, which proved to work well living in Italy.
Flash forward to 2019 and the studio I had in the old part of town in medieval Santa Fiora had been operational for 4 years. After a very brief and unfortunate move to Switzerland (I had a lot of my belongings stolen, including all my jewellery-making equipment and materials), I returned to Italy during the middle of the pandemic and set about working my butt off to recreate what I’d had as best I could.
By late 2022, though the heartbreak of lost things lingered, I was up and running again, tools replaced, and I worked for the next year from the lounge room in my tiny apartment. In September 2023 I packed up my studio for what felt like the hundredth time and on 31 October 2023 I returned to Australia. My studio equipment joined me 7 months later, after a 7 month sea voyage.
And here we are in 2025 and Fury Lane Studio is where I continue to create my art and jewellery.
Below is a mix of old and newer jewellery pieces.
