It’s been a month since I’ve blogged. I’m renovating a house at the moment, which kinda gets in the way of creativity – to a certain extent. I suppose it is a form of creativity in itself, but it’s a different kind of creativity. I think different thoughts from what I would normally (feature wall paint colour, should they be 40cm artichoke light fittings, or 45cm, and should I buy hydrangeas or jessamine), but during the in-between times, my novel thoughts always creep in. Usually at 3am.
I have been consistently writing, although not as much as I’d like to. I’ve been using a marvellous application called Write or Die – highly conducive to any work in progress – but since the house has been full of tradespeople on the days I have to write I’ve been sneaking out in my car, going to local mountaintop lookouts and writing snatches of novel there. Mobile office. Highly recommended. Not if you leave your notes behind.
This month will see the construction quieten down so I’ve seized the opportunity to make this my NaNoWriMo. My challenge? To blat out 50,000 words in 30 days. Two days in, so far, so good. Also, to boost the Muse, this afternoon I head off to a weekend writers retreat held by Joanne Fedler. No computers, pencil to paper, can’t wait!
